Gamma ray logging

The logging is used to measure the natural radioactivity of the formation near the borehole. It is very useful to distinguish sandstone and mudstone in API unit. [8] Because sandstone is mainly non radioactive quartz, mudstone radioactivity is mainly due to the potassium isotope in clay, as well as uranium and thorium adsorbed.
Spontaneous potential logging
Spontaneous potential measures the difference of spontaneous potential without current. It was the first wireline logging.
