is a exploration equipment which at a sounding point on the ground (i.e. the midpoint of MN pole). By increasing the power supply electrode step by step, the size of AB pole distance, the apparent resistivity of the same-point and different AB pole distance is measured, and the geological cross section of different depths under this sounding point is studied

.
The electric sounding method mostly adopts a 4p VES arrangement called a 4p sounding method. When the AB pole distance is short, the current distribution is shallow, and the ρS curve mainly reflects the shallow layer; when the AB pole distance is large, the current distribution is deep, and the ρS curve mainly reflects the influence of the deep stratum. The ρS curve is plotted on a double logarithmic coordinate paper with AB/2 and ρS coordinates. When the local lower stratum interface is not more than 200, the electric depth sounding plate is used for quantitative interpretation, and the thickness and depth of each layer are inferred to be reliable. The electric sounding method is widely used in hydrogeology, engineering geology and coal field geological work. In addition to the symmetrical quadrupole sounding method, methods such as three-pole sounding, dipole sounding, and circular sounding can also be applied.

Direct current method is a kind of method of electric prospecting. The common feature is to study the distribution characteristics and laws of direct current electric field related to geological bodies for prospecting and solving some geological problems. The field sources used by the direct current method are artificial and natural. The difference of electrical properties used are the difference of resistivity and polarization of rocks and ores.
