TRANSIENT TIME-DOMAIN ELECTROMAGNETIC (TEM)
One of the most widely used geophysical methods to determine the electrical resistivity of the subsurface is the Transient Time Domain Electromagnetic Sounding (TDEM) which is based on the constant injection of electric current through a coil (loop) which induces a primary magnetic field. The sudden cut in the current interrupts the primary magnetic field which produces the electromagnetic induction of electric currents in the subsurface. These currents have closed trajectories and migrate vertically and laterally, losing intensity as time passes, generating in turn a transient secondary magnetic field. This secondary field induces a time-varying voltage. The time decay of the voltage contains information on the resistivity of the subsurface, which is correlated with the geology of the area to obtain an approximate model of the medium.
