Both devices provide indirect measurements and require interpretation and judgement by the testing agency.

The quality inspection of hole forming and slotting is mainly based on the following principles:
Ultrasonic Testing Principle
1.Transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves: The ultrasonic transducer in the detection equipment transmits high-frequency ultrasonic pulses into the hole or slot. These ultrasonic waves propagate in the medium (such as mud, rock and soil on the hole wall, etc.). When encountering the interface of different media (such as the interface between the hole wall and mud, the interface between different strata), part of the ultrasonic wave will be reflected back. The transducer also receives the reflected ultrasonic signal.
Verticality detection principle (based on sensor combination)
1.Gravity sensor and tilt sensor work together: Gravity sensor and tilt sensor are usually equipped in the detection equipment. Gravity sensor can determine the reference of the equipment in the vertical direction, and tilt sensor can measure the tilt angle of the equipment relative to the direction of gravity.
2.Real-time monitoring and data processing: When the detection equipment is lowered or lifted in the hole or slot, the tilt sensor continuously measures the change of the tilt angle of the equipment at different depths. Through real-time monitoring and integral calculation of these angle data and other data processing methods, the verticality deviation of the equipment during the entire detection process can be calculated, and then it can be inferred whether the verticality of the hole or slot meets the requirements. For example, if the tilt angle of the equipment continues to increase within a certain depth range, it means that the verticality of this part of the hole or slot may exceed the standard.
