The basic principle of multi-channel cross-hole acoustic logging utilizes the properties of sound waves propagating in different media. When sound waves encounter different geologic layers, they are reflected and refracted due to changes in the density and elasticity of the medium. By recording the propagation time and waveform characteristics of the sound waves, experts are able to analyze the physical properties of the formation, such as density, porosity and water saturation.
